The micro-internships and research mentors will be identified by the Stanford Summer Fellows Program. The purpose of the experiential learning component is not only for students to gain initial experiences in research and workplace settings, but also for them to develop close relationships with supervisors who have an intentional desire to mentor young students as they grow and develop over time, regardless of specific academic and/or career interests. ![]() ![]() Opportunities could include smaller independent research projects, shadowing of existing projects, directed reading and discussion in a field selected by the student, etc. The exploratory research projects are a wonderful way to gain exposure to research for the first time, under the guidance of a mentor. They work on short-term, project-based assignments meant to give them exposure to a particular industry. In the micro-internship, students develop transferable skills, learn what future career opportunities may be available, and build professional connections. Students participate in an experiential learning project for 20 to 25 hours per week throughout the eight-week program – four weeks in a micro- internship and four weeks on a research project. In addition, each student receives a $3,000 stipend. The Stanford Summer Fellows Program will provide full financial support for all participants to enable them to fully engage in this learning opportunity, with summer tuition to cover one course of their choosing up to 5 units of credit, on-campus room and board for the duration of the program, and programming costs covered by the program. Fellows will also take a course of their choosing for credit and explore community building events and activities focused on wellbeing. During the eight-week program, each fellow will be matched with a half-time research experience for four weeks, and a half-time internship for four weeks. Designed as a residential cohort program, Stanford Summer Fellows brings first-generation, low-income students together on campus during the summer between their first and second year at Stanford. Want to explore an internship, try your hand at research, and get a key course out of the way, all in one summer? Apply to be a part of the inaugural year of Stanford Summer Fellows, launching in Summer 2023. About the Stanford Summer Fellows Program (SSFP) ![]()
